Getting your site with effective on-page optimization
After defining a list of relevant keywords is the optimization step. It is to write content and configure the site. In the on-page SEO, we are focusing on the pages, not on the external environment. The goal is to have well represented keywords and site indexing by Google is facilitated. I continue in the will of this blog to clarify the basic and provide an approach that can be used to the greatest number. I also answer some questions I get every day.
Getting your site with the tag "title" and "description"
The tags (or meta) "title" and "description" are used to indicate to Google for information on a page. Indeed these tags are part of the first items to be scanned because it is in the computer code that is your site. Only the "title" tag is visible to users in the navigation tab of their browser.
The tag "title"
The "title" tag is the title given to a page. The important thing here is to indicate keywords that you want to highlight. We must find a balance between following keywords and phrase. For example:
<Title> Blog about Natural SEO. Articles Web Marketing </ title>
The size of this title should be 70 characters. To measure I suggest you use the site preview tool SEOlius. You'll notice that the first letters of the key words are capitalized. This has the advantage of facilitating their visibility when the title is displayed in a tab.
Specifically in computer code the title is written between the <head> </ head> of your page. This place is reserved for Google to provide information and not to your visitors.
The meta tag "description"
The meta tag "description" is displayed in the presentation page of Google results. It is not important for SEO. However it is still important to indicate keywords because they will be displayed in bold if the user had typed the same word. Here is an example:
Meta Description
Display of meta description on Google
The meta description should consist of complete sentences. This is not a succession of keywords, but a short text on a page. This text must contain less than 156 characters. I board the tool SEOliuspour sure.
If you do not meet the description, Google will take a sample of your page. The result in the computer code.
<Meta name = "description" content = "Description must be 156 characters">
Should indicate the site's name in the title and description tag?
This issue has no place for many who consider that a "title" tag should be written in the following format: "Page - Category - Site Name". And although not necessarily for the name of the site! There are no predefined models. If you want to develop your brand, or your reputation, I strongly advice you. However, it can quickly take up space within 70 characters (especially if your site name or brand is rather long). It can also reduce the impact of other keywords.
So I advise you not to repeat your keywords in these places. For example I do not recommend "Blog SEO. Blog about SEO and web marketing articles ". Repetition can be mistaken for spam by Google. Furthermore there must be a "title" and "description" one per page. To make sure you can use the "webmaster tools"> Appearance menu in the search results> HTML Improvement.
Getting your site with the URL
After the title and page description, it should focus on the URL. It is important that it contains the keywords of the page. Continuing our example, this is what we get:
According to the solution you use to manage your site you will be able to easily change your URL when you create the page. This is the case with wordpress I use to blog seo trends.
Once you have defined your URL, this must be final. I advise you therefore not to change after the launch. Otherwise Google will no longer find the original URL which will be a 404. To indicate that the URL should redirect to the new one, you must use a 301 redirect This can be very simple if you have a dedicated tool. Otherwise, call a specialist. Ask the question on a forum or even better contact me by comment or by form.
In the case of a small site (5-10 pages), this is easily manageable. However for an E-commerce site or a large blog it can quickly become very tedious.
Getting your site with Hn tags
Now we come into the body of your page. The Hn tags are headlines. Imagine a newspaper, with a principal, a secondary title, a paragraph, a title part, as a sub part ... We are talking about because there Hn 6 levels of title, H1 to H6. Usually we stop the H3 or H4.
A page must contain a single H1. The keywords placed here will be very important to Google. Here's an example with the case of this article:
<H1> Getting your site with effective on-page optimization </ h1>.
The way I wrote the title corresponds to the conventional writing (the "h" can be written both in uppercase lowercase).
Then comes the H2 .:
<H2> Getting your site with the tag "title" and "description" </ h2>
<H2> Getting your site with the URL </ h2> ...
There is no specific number of H2 per page, but I suggest you do not abuse it:
On home page: maximum 4
In a category page of an e-commerce site: 1 or 2
In a blog post: hard to say, it can be "proportional" to the size of the article. 4, 5 or even 6 if you write a long article.
Then the H3. Useful for example as in as a party to a blog, for products of a category page on an e-commerce site:
<H3> The meta tag "title" </ h3>
<H3> The meta tag "description" </ h3> ...
The other great information that I want to give you in this part is to book these tags to keywords. Because I often see Hn on phrases like "Contact Us" or "Information" located in the sides or footer. The words inserted in these tags are important, so if you put words without interest to the SEO it will dilute the weight of the targeted keywords. Also be careful when text is repeated on every page that it is not in H tag, such as on this blog "Follow months", "Categories" or "Recent Comments" (that is the case on this blog, this is part of the improvements that I am trying to make).
You must be wondering how to see that they are your Hn titles. We must use tools that will be presented in a future article. I suggest you use the Firefox extension "Web Developer" that you can download free. On Firefox, go to Tools> Web Developer Extension> Wrap> Title (H1-H6).
Getting your website with optimized text
Hn between tags there will your text. You should write indicating the targeted keywords and variations. Here it plays a very important issue. Do not overdo the repetitions, otherwise Google will consider your site as SPAM. It is the object including its first major update in 2010, Google Panda, which helped to penalize sites that were abusing.
To know where is the limit, I often say that it is not necessary to make density calculations for a specific word in relation to all the words on the page (which is possible). Just read your text, and if words are too repetitive so that reading becomes boring, correct and refine your optimization. This is a very important concept of SEO: first think about the user, the user.
The <strong>
Still tags! They send clear instructions to Google when the engine has indexed and read your page. The <strong> are used to indicate important keywords. Visually the keyword is bold, but it is not the purpose of this tag. To create a bolding style effect, use the <b>.
When you put the fat, make sure it is properly inserted a tag strong that way <strong> Keywords </ strong>. If a text seems important to you, but you do not want to attract Google's attention, do this: <b> Keywords </ b>. This can happen to the text as "Contact months" for example.
There are not that strong tags to indicate that words are important. There are also <em>, whose visual effect is to put the word in italics. To simply use the style effect, you must use the <i>.
Getting your website with links
In your text you definitely will integrate links to other pages of your site. In addition to the visible links on every page, such as the menu or the links in the footer, I suggest you create links to internal pages. Overall, more links a page receives, the more it is important for Google because we tell him to visit her. Google follows all the links it finds in its path.
We have just introduced an important concept of SEO, internal linking, or the internal mesh.
From a user and even SEO perspective, it is good to make links to pages of the same theme. For a master record of an e-commerce site, consider creating a link to the category. Suggested items are also very useful. To make a blog links to further articles. If a page can contain links, you will have less chance to see well-positioned.
I am not speaking here of backlinks that concern the off-page optimization. I invite you to read the page on the importance of links to learn more. Indeed, the links to other sites are sending you have a very important role.
Getting your website with images
In latter come the images. Important for a pleasant site, you can also use for SEO. To do this you must complete alternative text, or alt tag. For example, the ALT tag of the image of this article is "on-page SEO."
The result in computer code:
<Img src = "image exemple.png" alt = "SEO on-page" title = "SEO on-page to its site properly reference" />
ALT and TITLE are not the same. The title of the image does not come into consideration in SEO. This is what is displayed on hover the mouse over the image. However you can specify keywords as this "title" is still read by Google.
If I fill board the ALT tag is because Google uses this information to index your image in its "Images" category. In other words, when you do an image search is the ALT tag which allows them to appear. Additionally Google may display images in the main results page.
You now know how to optimize the pages of your website for SEO. It is work but it's essential to be visible on Google. Your page should be consistent, that is to say that keywords should appear in what I call the trio "META - URL - CONTENT
